A truly passionate musician, was first introduced to the piano at the age of five under the tutelage of Professor Yim Ying Lun from the Singapore Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. He was a student at the Kingston University in London and the Hong Kong Baptist University, where he worked with the renowned Chinese pianist Ms. Chu Shan Shan and Emeritus Professor Edward Ho.

As an invited artist of ABRSM, Derek was attained the Fellow of the Royal Schools of Music, he has given recitals in Hong Kong and London.

Also as a member of Hong Kong Chamber Camerata, he collaborated with other famous musicians to perform a chamber recital, titled as “Beyond the Titanic”, which is hosted by the Foundation for Educational Development and Research by The University of Hong Kong. Recently Derek has been invited as the adjudicator panel of “The Fifth Hong Kong Little Musical Philanthropists” and “The 8th Asian Youth Talent Piano Competition” in mainland China.
